Matthew Irons arrived in Boston with the Winthrop Fleet in 1630. He became a freeman in Boston in 1636. His land
in Boston was near the intersection of South and Summer Streets.

burial: Col. Laben Irons Lot (GL124) in Glocester, R.I. This historical cemetery is located in the woods about
130 yards due south of the Irons-Steere Burying Ground (GL037) on Snake Hill Road. The cemetery is enclosed
with a stone wall and is heavily overgrown with brush and poison ivy, but the stones are in relatively good condition.

Col. Laben (also spelled "Laban," "Labin," "Labon" in various records) Irons served in the
Captain-General's Cavaliers for the County of Providence (an Independent Company) from 1808
to 1812. He was listed as a 1st Lt. in May 1812 in the Captain-General's Cavaliers before
the start of the War of 1812 in June 1812 (see Joseph Jencks Smith, "Civil and Military List
of R.I.," Vol. II). With his death in November 1813 and his rank of Colonel, Laban likely
served in the War of 1812. Additional research will be necessary to prove this.
Col. Laben's brother Dexter Irons served as an Ensign in the 1st Glocester Co., 12th Regiment,
2nd Brigade of Providence County Militia in May of 1812. He continued to serve in this unit
and became a Captain of the 1st Glocester Company by May 1816 (see Joseph Jencks Smith, "Civil
and Military List of R.I.," Vol. II).
