of the Seamans Family in Rhode Island sometimes used the surname "Simmons," or variations
thereof. The newest published genealogy was done by Lynne Carol Seaman, "The Seaman Family
Chronicles including the Families of Churchill and Jennings," Self-Published, California, 2006.

Thomas was a carpenter and a school teacher. He was a member of the early Baptist Church at Swansea.
His wife Susannah was the daughter of William Salisbury, who was killed by some of King Phillip's
native warriors during Phillip's attack on Swansea, Mass. in June 1675. Susannah survived King Phillip's
War, but her brother John was also killed in June 1675.

James was a carpenter who grew up and lived in Swansea, Massachusetts. He moved his family to Scituate,
Rhode Island from 1740 to 1746 along with his brothers Thomas and John and their families. The
descendants of James and his brothers lived in Scituate and Foster, R.I. and were one of the major families
there.

Susan grew up in Scituate or Foster, Rhode Island. After marrying James Young, Susan helped raise her family
in Scituate, R.I. and later moved with James to Pennsylvania in the early 1830's. After James
died in 1849, Susan remained with some of her children in Pennsylvania.
